Injury Shield protects you when a player you have the over on gets injured early in their game and you lose that selection as a result. When it applies, we credit you HotStreak Bonus Tokens equal to what your entry would have been worth without that player β even though the entry itself still settles as a loss.
Some sites (like PrizePicks) call this feature reboots, and you may have seen it called injury protection elsewhere β on HotStreak, it's Injury Shield.
When Injury Shield applies
Injury Shield is applied automatically when all of the following are true:
The selection is for an NBA, NFL, or college football player. Injury Shield does not apply to any other sport.
You took the over on that player.
The player left the game with an injury in the first half and did not return.
It is a full-game selection placed pregame. Live selections are never covered.
It has to be a genuine injury. A player who is benched, ejected, held out by a coach's decision, or who simply plays poorly is not covered by Injury Shield.
How Injury Shield works
Injury Shield does not remove the player from your entry, and it does not change how your entry is graded. Your entry is still graded as a loss.
Instead, we separately work out what your entry would have been worth if that player were taken out of it, and credit you that amount:
If your remaining selections all hit, you are credited what you would have won.
If removing the player would leave your entry invalid β an entry needs at least 2 players from 2 different teams β you are credited what you would have been refunded.
The credit is paid in HotStreak Bonus Tokens β bonus funds that must be played through before they can be withdrawn. See What's the difference between HotStreak Credits and HotStreak Bonus Tokens? for how those work.
My entry settled as a loss β did Injury Shield apply?
It still may have. Injury Shield never changes your entry's result β an entry that includes an injured player will still show as a loss. The Injury Shield credit is separate, and it arrives as HotStreak Bonus Tokens. So an entry that "settled as a loss" and an Injury Shield credit are not in conflict β when Injury Shield applies, both are true.
